Write a personal essay about a time you felt stuck between two sets of expectations

Describe the conflict, what you felt, and how you responded. You should choose a specific event that took place over a short period of time (at most one hour) and had a profound impact on you. I would prefer talking about something the typical teenager goes through using the words ¨I¨.

Title: Write a personal essay about a time you felt stuck between two sets of expectations

There was a point in time where I felt like I was in two worlds when I was an high school student. I felt pressured to excel academically and impress my teachers and parents. They believed that I would be a good student, attend college, and eventually become an valuable member of the community. However there were the expectations of my peers who encouraged my to get out and enjoy drinking, having a drink, and have a party. In that period I was very nervous as I was afraid to be disappointing someone from either of the groups.

A friend of mine requested that I attend a celebration, and Friday would be my downfall. The idea that refusing the invitation would result in conflict is a joke. He exploded and claimed that I hadn’t been having time with our circle of friends recently. The truth of his assertions cannot be doubted. In the evening I decided to meet my friends for a night of drinking and dancing. It was one of my many nights where I was able to resolve internal struggles when I had a great evening with friends. I was always embarrassed by extravagant expenditures since my parents worked tirelessly to help me get through college. As I thought about my long-term objectives and the extent to which I loved my time at moment, I began to worry that I wasn’t doing enough to reach these goals. I felt as if I spent too much time with friends and not spending enough time learning.
