There was a moment when I was caught between two worlds as a high school student. I felt the pressure to do well academically and be a success in front of my teachers and parents. They believed that I would achieve academically, go to college, and eventually contribute to the community. However, there were the anticipations of my friends who urged me to head out and have some fun, drink and party. At that point I was very nervous due to fearing I could cause a rift with someone else from either group.

One of my friends requested that I attend a party, i was told that Friday would be my downfall. To imagine that refusing the invitation could result in conflict was absurd. He exploded and declared that i had not been spending much time with our friends’ circle recently. The truthfulness of his claims might be questionable. The next evening, I decided to meet up with my buddies to have a good time drinking. The night was one of many when I experienced internal conflict every time I had a great time with my fellow classmates. I felt guilty about extravagant spending since my parents worked so hard to get me through college. When I thought about my future goals and how much I loved it, I was worried that I wasn’t making enough effort to accomplish the goals. I felt as if I had been spending too much time with friends and not enough time in school.
