William Wells Brown, Clotel; or The President’s Daughter

Each student is required to choose a particular work (that is either covered in class or represented in the text) and produces an annotated bibliography, consisting of four scholarly/refereed secondary sources, not to include the textbook, encyclopedia (reference) articles, or biographies.Sources: Each secondary source should be documented according to MLA (Modern Language Association) standards. Students should use Times New Roman font, 12 points. Websites such as Wikipedia, SparkNotes, BookRags, E-notes, etc. should not be used. Also, book reviews, overviews, and abstracts are prohibited. Instead, students should consult the library’s catalog and electronic databases, such as MLA Bibliography, JSTOR(Journal Storage), ProQuest, and Humanities Full-text for PDFversions of secondary sources. The focus should be placed on various analyses of the selected literary work, not the author’s life.Handout: In addition to submitting the bibliography to the instructor, presenters must prepare a one-page original handout(created by the student, in the student’s own words), The student must be prepared to successfully field questions as well.
