Your Learning Team is a task force comprised of department leaders and strategy sponsors. The task
force is responsible for developing a strategic plan for your selected department or system. As the task
force, you must identify the problematic areas of the department or system and provide an outline of the
strategic plan’s development process that you will use to write the strategic plan. This should be a
forward-looking plan; where is the agency today and where does it want to be in the future?

a. Police officers

i. Police officers are accountable for a variety of tasks including protecting the public, keeping precise records, and presenting evidence in court to defend alleged criminals. The typical law enforcement duties of police officers involve watching a suspect’s activities as well as patrolling the areas assigned to them and capturing suspected lawbreakers and conducting traffic stops and creating court cases.

ii. The benefits of a criminal justice institution of having police officers involved as partners in the process of planning includes the capability to boost the law enforcement of the agency as well as crime prevention and control as well as the assurance of the public’s safety.

b. Judges

i. Judges decide court cases by enforcing the law and overseeing the legal procedure. They also settle disputes and assist conflicting parties to come to an agreement. They also oversee their fairness in hearings and decision on a case in court by determining the guilt or innocence of the accused and the sentencing criminals.

ii. Participating as a judge in the design process of an agency for criminal justice is essential for the agency to decrease crime, strengthen the law and ensure the justice system is fair.
