For me it has always been an investment in money or as a reward to purchase an heir. I call her a wife because typically (except when circumstances change) the groom will pay the wedding dowry and her family. The above “circumstances” are common to Indians as we’ve always known, but it is the reverse. The bride is the one who pays the dowry. However, I’ve not discovered the exact origin or motive behind this according to different cultures, an this is an unnatural practice.

The article has provided me with information about the origins of practice of dowry in the world of Indians and how it has changed over the years. It’s no secret that the higher educated a groom is the greater the amount of dowry that is required of him. Furthermore, the fact the dowry is one of the major causes of death for the majority of Indian women is shocking. Women being killed by their spouses or parents or even committing suicide due to inability to pay for dowry is a crime that should not happen in the present time. The article further emphasized the graveness of this problem in this culture to the point of babies murdered at birth due to the fact that parents are unable to pay for their dowry when it comes to.
