27. CASE STUDY 2 A 49-year-old woman with advanced stage cancer has been admitted to the emergency room with cardiac arrest. Her husband and one of her children accompanied the ambulance.
Write a detailed one-page narrative (not a formal paper) explaining the health assessment information required for a diagnosis of your selected patient (include the scenario number). Explain how you would respond to the scenario as an advanced practice nurse using evidence-based practice guidelines and applying ethical considerations. Justify your response using at least three different references from current evidence-based literature.

Patients suffering from terminal illnesses, like advanced stage cancer, must talk about their plans regarding end-of-life treatment. In this hypothetical scenario the patient who has an advanced cancer diagnosis is brought at the emergency department in cardiac arrest. The family members includes her husband and her infant, are there with her. An electrocardiogram is a method to determine the cause of cardiac arrest (Stewart Stewart, 2018,). The husband is also questioned about his wife’s health condition and the history of her diagnosis, such as whether there is an emergency planin place, in the event that she has specific needs for the case where she ceases breathing, or her heart ceases to beat beating, how long she’s been in a state of non-responsiveness or exactly what was she doing before losing consciousness and whether she was taking any medication. In the meantime, until an advance directive is discovered or the spouse announces that they and their family members want to end all attempts at resuscitating and I, as a healthcare professional will continue to provide CPR and other life-saving procedures. I’d advise the family that the chaplain will be available should they wish to talk with him, and then let them stay with their mom if they would like. It could be challenging to make difficult choices for someone you love dearly with a terminal illness. Cont…
