Global Climate Change

31. Why are so many people skeptical about global climate change? Why are so many people reluctant to listen to public health advice? How do we get information to people in order to change their behavior or to get them to support laws that protect public health?

Extreme weather, like droughts, wildfires and storms, are occurring more frequent as temperatures rise globally which is causing havoc to the human environment, lives and the economic stability. The verdict is in and evidence seems and clear: drastic actions are required to avoid the most devastating effects of climate changes from affecting the globe. There are many discussions on the issue of climate change are stuck in a different world where the gravity of the issue is brushed aside and the validity of the research is challenged. A large part of the blame lies with climate denialists. The people who pollute the climate debate are employing “distract and delay” tactics to prevent us from making progress (Global Witness 2022). These are less complicated, but are equally harmful They don’t challenge the existence of global warming, but instead criticize solutions to the problem as well as question the credibility of climate scientists and claim that environmentalists are excessively alarmist. It’s hard to convince people with the truth as stated by (Birch 2020). Achieving behavioral change initiatives which paint a negative image is not effective, since the public will not make positive changes as a consequence. Cont…
