Geographic Information System

For the final paper/project:

Your final research paper will be based on your approved final project proposal.  You are required to write a research paper that details the result of your project. It should have the following structure:
Abstract, Introduction/Literature review, Methods, Discussion, Conclusion, Maps, and References Cited.
The abstract is a brief synopsis of project, including information about the project background, methods and conclusions. It should be about half a page.
The introduction should introduce the project and provide background information (literature review) – what is the problem or situation you are looking at and why is it important? This section should also provide information the reader needs to understand the problem or situation. This should include any necessary information unlikely to be known by an educated layperson outside the field of the project. Also, very briefly discuss previous work done on your chosen problem.
The methods section will provide a relatively detailed account of the data you used or created, any transformations you needed to perform on that data to make it useful, and the GIS analyses you performed to address your problem or situation. You will need to use at least 3 different geoprocessing tools (clipping, intercepts, joins, buffers, etc.) and incorporate 3 data sets in the analysis steps. Boundary layers, such as state or county outlines, that are not used in the analysis do not count towards the 3 sets needed for your analysis.
The discussion section will present your results and your interpretation of them. It should also include any limitations imposed on your analysis by the accuracy or content of the data you used. Here you can also discuss what future work you would do to increase the efficacy or reach of your study, and how your study relates to previous work.
The conclusion section will contain a distillation of the results of your study, along with the conclusions you draw from them. This should include recommendations on how the results of your analysis can be used to help clarify or resolve the problem or situation you have been investigating.
The maps section will include all the maps you think you need to effectively communicate your work, results, and conclusions. You should have at least three maps, one of which should a general map detailing your study area. You should also have a map detailing the results of your analysis. Other maps can include data layers you used as inputs, intermediate data layers, and maps illustrating your conclusions. All maps should be exported from ArcGIS Pro in layout view with the appropriate title, scale bar, legend, and north arrow.
The reference section should contain references to the sources you used in your work, in APA format. At the least, your background and discussion section should have some references.
