Conventionally, it is believed that the privacy of patient data is adequately protected under the privacy laws by the United States (Karaca, 2020). Recent threats to privacy for patients occur when for-profit businesses have a greater interest in purchasing databases of the major health networks. Sharing data of patients with companies who may use it for profit or to target specific populations raises ethical issues. When drafting new laws controlling the disclosure of patient information and other patient data, it is essential to remember that any breach of the confidentiality of large databases could put many patients in danger of being exploited. Similar to this the commercial exploitation of patient information shared between healthcare providers and corporations that are not owned by them raises ethical questions concerning the use of willingly provided data for research (Kim et al. 2019). American patients are at risk of the risk of exploitation both accidental and intentional because of the sharing of their information by healthcare providers and third-party entities because of the development of artificial intelligence technology and access to personal data provided to companies that sell data. Cont…
