Elevator Speech PPT and Letter

Review the assigned health policy reading material and websites
provided and watch the video regarding the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Use the
template for proposed legislation to formulate an elevator speech that can be
given as a testimony either for or against a provision or mandate that the ACA
implements or affects regarding individual, family, or population health or
health policy issues that affect rural health or vulnerable populations. Some
ideas can be related to insurance coverage mandates, employer mandates,
expansion of Medicare or Medicaid, provisions for health promotion, and so on.
Once you have completed all areas of the template, write a one page (single
spaced) speech in letter form addressed to an actual legislator in your
district, state or at the national level, expressing your views and including
all aspects of the template. Include two evidence-based resources within the
letter. Ensure that EBP resources are cited correctly and include a reference
page. Create the speech using a PowerPoint platform with voice-over. (Please
see instructions in course shell for how to do a voice-over within a
PowerPoint.) Talking points of the speech should be in the PowerPoint to
facilitate the delivery of your speech; speaker notes section may also be used.
The Power Point with voice-over and the speech in letter format will be posted to
the discussion forum.

Please see the rubric for specific grading criteria.

Resources for the Elevator Speech

·
What is an Elevator Speech? (http://www.ala.org/advocacy/advocacy-university/school-library-resources/elevator-speech)

·
Note that an elevator speech
is intended to be able to be shared in the amount of time you may find yourself
on an elevator with someone; recommendations range from 20-30 seconds for this
(approximately 4-5 spoken sentences). Please keep this in mind as you condense
the content from your letter into the key points for your PowerPoint/speech. (I
will do the voice-over part)

·
To determine a topic or goal, research: (http://kff.org/health-reform/) OR Rural Policy Research
Institute (RUPRI) Center for Rural Health Policy Analysis

a.
You can also use other research as long as it focuses on the ACA.
