5. What is Jesus’ attitude towards the Mosaic Law as presented by Matthew (Mt. 5)? Why is this significant?

Based on Matthew (Mt. 5,), Jesus’ attitude towards His stance on the Mosaic Law is: “Not to tear down” (Matthew 5:17). For His time, Jesus’ teachings were radical. It was normal for them to be frightened by the prophet who was a young man from Nazareth who’s popularity was growing rapidly. One word or one phrase of the law isn’t permitted to change until all the conditions have been fulfilled even after earth and heaven have gone away (Alalo 2018, 2018). Thus, anyone who does not obey even the tiniest of these laws and teaches others to follow the same is considered to be less than in the heavenly kingdom. however, anyone who upholds these commandments and teaches others to follow the same will be considered superior in the heavenly kingdom. “But to fulfil” (Matthew 5:17). Jesus was here for the purpose of “fulfill” this Law rather than “destroy” the Law. Western commentators have looked at how Jesus did what was required of him in his Law (Du Toit 2018). Some have believed that this could suggest that Jesus was a perfect observer of the Law. Others have suggested the idea that it is a signification the fact that Christ was the Messiah of the Old Testament prophesied by the prophets. But, those in the room when Jesus spoke understood exactly what He was referring to. Every rabbi and sage wished to “fulfill” the Law by revealing its true and complete significance. Cont…
