Children Need Private Space Just Like Adults

I. Introduction

Children require a space to be their own as adults do. I am a firm believer of the belief that every person has a unique identity, not just the child. The one difference between adults and children is that children grow into individuals, whereas adults are mature individuals. Thus, age is the difference. However, age does play a role in making decisions children need a safe environment in which to discover their potential for rapid growth. Children are therefore entitled to privacy concerns.

II. Body

a.  Enhances their awareness of privacy

i. Children require private spaces to be self-aware and self-actualization

ii. Private space can enhance the development of emotional intelligence in children. Richardson et al. (2017) discovered that gardens that are private can be more supportive of children’s mental development more than natural areas.

iii. The children need to be taught what needs to be done privately and then practice independently (“Privacy Education,” 2022).

b. Spaces that are independent can foster creativity in children.

i. Self-confidence increases in children.

ii. Being in a room alone gives children the ability to express themselves. This is because children can be more expressive when they’re in a quiet environment (Rich 2021).

iii. Solitude encourages creativity. Children learn by trial and failure.
