Board Memo 2

Subject: Nonprofit Management

Explain to a new board member or to a professional who is new to the nonprofit sector the role of the Internal Revenue Service in regulating nonprofits. What is the IRS responsible for? What are the key expectations/processes/activities a nonprofit is responsible for meeting (and why are they key)? What are the organizational and operational tests? What are the penalties for not meeting them? What is Hopkins viewpoint on the role of the IRS?
This paper should be at least THREE single-spaced pages of text, not including bibliography or figures, with single spaces between paragraphs in 12-pt font and one-inch margins.  Please do not use a font smaller than 12-pt as my eyes are getting old! Sub- headings and internal organization are encouraged. The maximum length is up to you, but keep your professional audience in mind, and edit carefully and thoroughly. Note that longer length better quality unless you edited carefully.
