For your Autoethnography Narrative Essay, you need to answer each question in a
separate paragraph that is at least five to six sentences long (providing detailed examples
for questions 2-9). In total, you should have nine paragraphs in this essay. You do not need
an introduction nor a conclusion. Lastly, if you are new to this country, you can reflect on
and analyze your personal experiences in your homeland.

to your understanding of yourself in relation to your culture/ethnicity? Provide specific
examples and a critical analysis of how your interests relate to your culture/ethnicity.
6. What is your gender? How have you conformed to, challenged, or otherwise navigated
your culture’s/ethnicity’s gender roles? What are these gender roles? Describe an
example based on your personal experiences.
7. How have you conformed to, challenged, or otherwise navigated the gender roles in our
broader society (the gender roles taught in the United States)? What are these gender
roles? Describe an example based on your personal experiences.
8. How has your culture/ethnicity resisted forms of oppression? What are these forms of
oppression? Describe an example based on your personal experiences.
9. What does this resistance to oppression tell you about your culture/ethnicity? What can
you learn from these struggles? Describe an example based on your personal experiences.
Your Autoethnography Narrative Essay must be at least 1,000 words, 12 point font, Times
New Roman, 1”margins, and double spaced. You do not need a cover page. Your first page
should state your name, the date, and the title of the assignment at the top. You do not have
to restate the questions, you just have to answer them thoughtfully and critically.

learning outcome of analyzing the effects of historical, social, political, economic, cultural, and
global forces on the period of U.S. history as well as developing your critical thinking,
