19. An analysis on the over-reliance on non-renewables and how that’s leading us into an energy crisis and other issues such as climate change

Risks to the health of humans, ecosystems and the world economy are on the rise due to global warming. A new report from the European Environment Agency (EEA) named “Climate change, impacts and vulnerabilities in Europe 2016” states that different regions of Europe are already experiencing the effects of warming globe. Because of the wide combustion of fossil fuels for things such as power plants, home heating, and automobiles large quantities greenhouse gasses are released into the air which is causing these changes (Chen 2019,). Air pollution is harmful to both humans and the earth, as the release of these gases occurs when burning fossil fuels. Around the world the energy industry and its consumption are the main source of carbon dioxide equivalents created by man. Utilizing fossil fuels for electricity, heat transport, industry, and transportation makes up nearly two-thirds carbon dioxide emissions (Chen, 2019,). The energy sector was the biggest source of the 2015 EU emissions which accounted for 78% of total emissions. Cont…
